Virginia School Boards Association President Makes
Roadshow Stop to Louisa County Public Schools

Charlottesville, VA – Earlier today, the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) President, Dr. Cardell Patillo, made the 20th stop on his statewide VSBA President’s Roadshow in Louisa County. The visit highlighted several innovative programs and facilities within Louisa County Public Schools (LCPS).

Dr. Patillo began the day at Impact Studio, a 21st-century learning space located in the Louisa County High School library. This dynamic learning space is equipped with laser engravers, 3D printers, and other cutting-edge technology that encourages students to explore creativity and hands-on learning.

Next, Dr. Patillo visited the Teachers for Tomorrow program, an initiative that earned the 2021 VSBA Excellence in Workforce Readiness Award. This program prepares students for a career in education, giving them practical experience in the classroom. Students in the program also help operate the Little Lions Learning Lab, an on-site childcare center for LCPS staff, where they are responsible for planning and teaching lessons to preschool-age children.

Quick stops were made to a sampling of the Career & Technical Education programs, including Media Productions, Nursing, Cybersecurity, and Cosmetology, which provide students with real-world skills and career pathways.

One of the tour’s highlights was the Louisa County Middle School Technology Help Desk, where LCHS students collaborate with middle school students to repair and maintain student devices.

The final stop was Creation Station, a state-of-the-art learning center in the Louisa County Middle School library. Similar to the Impact Studio, Creation Station offers students access to 3D printers, a music studio, a green screen, and other tools that foster creativity and innovation.

Reflecting on the visit, Dr. Patillo stated, “Louisa County Public Schools are a shining example of how we can innovate within education to truly engage and inspire students. The programs I’ve seen today not only prepare students for the workforce but also cultivate the creativity and collaboration needed for their future success.”

The President’s Roadshow is an ongoing initiative. The VSBA encourages all member school boards to reach out to be considered for a future stop on the President’s Roadshow.
