Regional School Board Members of the Year Honored at VSBA Annual Convention

members were awarded the prestigious VSBA Regional Member of the Year award during the opening session of the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Annual Convention in Williamsburg, VA. Honorees Jacinta Greene (Alexandria City Public Schools), Bobby Waddell (Appomattox County Public Schools), and Champ Hardie (Henry County Public Schools) were recognized for their outstanding boardsmanship and unwavering commitment to advancing student achievement in their respective regions. Southland Industries generously sponsored this year’s awards, supporting the recognition of these dedicated leaders.

Jacinta Greene, a six-year veteran on the Alexandria City School Board, was first elected in 2018. Throughout her service, Greene has taken on numerous leadership roles and passionately advocated for educational policies at both state and federal levels. “Equitable access to a high-quality education is among her top priorities,” noted her award application, highlighting her drive to make a lasting impact in her community.

Bobby Waddell has devoted over 18 years to the Appomattox County School Board, with 14 of those years as Chair. His leadership and vision have left a remarkable legacy. “His motives have always been clear: to provide the highest quality educational program in Appomattox by supporting its students and staff,” praised his award application, capturing the essence of Waddell’s mission-driven approach.

Champ Hardie of Henry County, though newer to the board with just under two years of service, has already made a powerful impression through his dedication to student success and boardsmanship. “Mr. Hardie has consistently dedicated himself to exceptional boardsmanship and active involvement in student achievement,” emphasized his award application, showcasing his passion and early impact.

These awardees exemplify the spirit of service and dedication that drives public education forward. Congratulations to Jacinta Greene, Bobby Waddell, and Champ Hardie for their remarkable contributions to their communities and to the future of Virginia’s students.
