2025 VSBA TITLE IX: BEST PRACTICES IN TRAINING & COMPLIANCE
February 20, 2025
Virtual or VSBA Office
Although new Title IX regulations were finalized in August 2024, their implementation in Virginia remains on hold. For the foreseeable future, school divisions must continue to follow the Title IX regulations released back in 2020.
Navigating the Title IX investigation and grievance process from 2020 can be anxiety-inducing, but it doesn’t have to be that way! In this two-part workshop, we will walk you through the basics of Title IX, as well as provide step-by-step guidance for conducting an effective and thorough investigation of claims arising under Title IX.
For the first part of the workshop, participants will learn the basics of Title IX. As part of this workshop, we will provide form letters that can be adopted by each school division to use at each juncture of the investigation process.
For the second part of the workshop, we have developed a vignette, for a hands on, guided investigation of a Title IX case. As part of this process, we will guide you through the process of making a general response, drafting a notice of investigation, conducting the investigation of a formal complaint, drafting the investigation report, drafting the decisionmaker’s report, and the appeal process. Sample investigation report and decision-maker report will be provided as part of the workshop.
Hosted by the VSBA and presented by Stacy Haney and Pakapon Phinyowattanachip, attorneys with Haney Phinyowattanachip PLLC, this timely and important workshop is a must.
