Douglas Brown’s passion for Mathematics blossomed during his formative years in public school. A firm believer in the transformative impact of public education on local and generational economic growth, Douglas has carried this conviction into his public service.
Douglas attended Stanford University, achieving both a Bachelors Degree in Communications and a Masters degree in Statistics. After college, Douglas relocated to Newport News, VA so that his children could receive a high-quality public education from the esteemed Newport News Public School division.
Douglas currently works as the Director of Data Science for a software company and has also taught Math in Newport News Public Schools, Virginia Peninsula Community College, and Christopher Newport University. Elected to the Newport News School Board in 2014, he actively champions the promotion of career pathways for students interested in Mathematics and encourages students that Numeric Literacy is achievable by anyone.
